I always thought it was kind of an odd irony that I historically get sick in the month of October. This is because I LOVE Halloween. Not the pagan ties or the evil associations… just getting into a scary movie and dressing up in costume without anyone thinking I’m weird. (Well, abnormally weird.) (Well, abnormally weird… FOR ME.)
Each year during this month, I usually try to create some sort of creepy atmosphere around my home. Not horrific or blood-curdling, just unsettling. But what once was an elaborate yard of spiderwebs, colored lights and frightening sounds, has been reduced to some cheezy store bought decorations and a collection of artificial pumpkins. Maybe my age is showing afterall. (Hush you. I can still pretend to be young.) Where I once spent days in predesign alone, now I only give the briefest afterthought towards my decorating efforts.
Still, it’s a fun time of year and I love the creepy atmosphere generated in Octoboer. I always thought that if I were not a Christian, I would have continued as some sort of ghost hunter. But the Bible strickly forbids me from this activity. (Besides, I’ve had my encounters with the supernatural… I would rather not repeat.)
So in the past few years, my wife and I have used Halloween simply as a time to dress alike in similar costumes. One year, we were Steve and Terri; The Crocodile Hunters. Another year, we roamed the streets as Pirates. This year, it’s Trina’s turn to pick.
We will be making the doorbell rigning scene this year as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and her vampire lover, Angel. I know, I know… how will people recognize us? In the show, Buffy was know for wearing trendy girly outfits accented with a stake. And Angel… well, I think the ‘all-black wardrobe’ will not set me apart. But maybe we can pull this off with clever dialog.
Anywho, we will also be doing a birthday party for Nathan on Halloween, so I’m sure I will be able to get my scares in somehow that night.
MU HA HA HA HA!
